Yet what began as a single act of state violence in the capital did not remain confined there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rY5QRQ\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55112280330_ed7d5b8036_b.jpg\" alt=\"\u0646\u0645\u0627\u06cc\u0634\u06af\u0627\u0647 \u0648 \u06a9\u0627\u0631 \u067e\u0631\u0633\u062a\u0648 \u06f1\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The journey of this movement began at Mahsa\u2019s funeral in a cemetery in Saqqez, Kurdistan, and from there it spread across Iran. <\/strong>From Kurdistan to Baluchestan, Gilan, Mazandaran, Khorasan, Fars, Azerbaijan, and other parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"942\" height=\"710\" src=\"https:\/\/www.irwmm.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/IMG_1284.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2097\" style=\"aspect-ratio:4\/3;object-fit:cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.irwmm.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/IMG_1284.jpeg 942w, https:\/\/www.irwmm.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/IMG_1284-300x226.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.irwmm.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/IMG_1284-768x579.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.irwmm.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/IMG_1284-100x75.jpeg 100w, https:\/\/www.irwmm.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/IMG_1284-480x362.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width:767px) 480px, (max-width:942px) 100vw, 942px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mahsa (Jina) Amini<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Its journey did not stop at the country\u2019s borders. The movement resonated across the globe, drawing support from the Iranian diaspora, feminists throughout the Middle East, and Western countries. It became a bridge carrying the collective demands for women\u2019s liberation and the pursuit of equality, freedom, human dignity, the right to choose, and women\u2019s bodily autonomy and self-determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rY4UZj\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55112099108_2de9dae9ae_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1210 (1)\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Four years after the beginning of this movement, the&nbsp;Verzetsmuseum Amsterdam, in solidarity with its aspirations, committed to organizing an exhibition presenting the history of Iranian women\u2019s movements \u2014 from the mid-nineteenth century and the Constitutional Revolution to the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, 2022-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a data-flickr-embed='true' href='https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/196897415@N06\/albums\/72177720332160475\/' title='women\u2019s movement\u2019s chorology  by iranianwomensmovementmuseum, on Flickr'><img src='https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55112098983_04fef8d240_c.jpg' width='800' height='600' alt='\u0635\u062f\u06cc\u0642\u0647 \u062f\u0648\u0644\u062a \u0627\u0653\u0628\u0627\u062f\u06cc \u0637\u0627\u0647\u0631\u0647 \u0642\u0631\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0639\u06cc\u0646'><\/a><script async src='https:\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js' charset='utf-8'><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>From its inception to its realization, the exhibition was supported by a dedicated and professional team at the&nbsp;Verzetsmuseum Amsterdam. The museum\u2019s director<strong>, Karlien Metz, t<\/strong>ogether with her colleagues<strong> Femke Burger, Lou Steiner, <\/strong>and<strong> Tim Smeets, <\/strong>accompanied the project throughout the entire process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the outset, they established an advisory committee composed of three Iranian women representing three different generations of Iran\u2019s women\u2019s movement. The committee included\u00a0Mansoureh Shojaee, founder of the Iranian Women\u2019s Movement Museum, along with Nilou Yekta and a young Iranian PhD students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to these individual contributors, the Iranian Women\u2019s Movement Museum supported the exhibition by lending two artworks by Vida Rabbani and Leila Hosseinzadeh, both of whom were imprisoned during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rXYkH8\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55111011597_a0b04a58f1_b.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1286\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition was further enriched by the inclusion of works by&nbsp;Parastou Forouhar, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Iranian Women\u2019s Movement Museum, whose artistic practice added a powerful and distinctive Iranian voice to the exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rY5g4F\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55112166641_178f92ccce_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1298\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The collaboration with Iranian designers, including Sara Emami, Iranian content editors, and Iranian advisors of the women\u2019s movement, brought the exhibition to life in a way that faithfully reflected the spirit and reality of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rY4UYs\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55112099058_3784e9f4a0_b.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1284\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opening Event<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to security considerations and space constraints, the opening evening was held by invitation only, with representatives of Dutch museums, participating Iranian and Dutch artists, members of the press, and a small number of special guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ceremony opened with a speech by Karlien, the museum\u2019s director.
