The sound of the small window in the steel door of Cell 25 in Cell Block 209, Evin Prison, when the guard would peek in to say that someone was using the toilet. Meaning that the prisoner had to go on writhing like a snake from the pressure of her bladder.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">But the day I found the note from the Hague post office in the mailbox, the sound of its door closing had a different tune. The notice that was putting an end to my anxiety and anticipation for a magical box from Iran seemed to have made that harsh sound melodious. As though it had turned the tuning peg on a rusty old instrument and produced a joyous song.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">I pranced to the post office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">The box seemed larger than what I had expected. Perhaps larger than the continent where I have had to live for the past six years, perhaps smaller than the solitary confinement cells at Evin Prison.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">The box would not fit in my arms. Perforce, I slid into its embrace and like a dancing boa slithered to the place that was not and is not my home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">I do not remember how I climbed up the stairs four floors, but I do remember how I tore myself out of the box\u2019s arms. Wasting no time, I opened it and one by one I pulled out the handcrafts of women \u2026 the freedom-loving captives in the Women\u2019s Ward for Political Prisoners at Evin Prison.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Bird\u2026flight. Doll, small, large\u2026 Sequined purse, sequin-less \u2026 Patchwork mat, embroidered tablecloth\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">No! No! There was more. It seems there was a sky as vast as the universe for the flight of the small dove of peace. It seems there was the beautiful song of freedom. It seems there were open arms for small and large motherly affections. It seems there were layered skirts of femininity, adorned, unadorned. Het geluid van moersleutel van Kalasjnikov, toen de soldaten naar de demonstranten schoten. En het geluid van open- en dichtgaan van het kleine luikje van ijzeren deur van cel nummer 25, afdeling 209 van Evin gevangenis; toen de cipier reikhalsde en zei dat iemand anders in het toilet zit. &nbsp;Dus, de gevangene moest door aandrang van blaas, als een slang flansen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Op de dag dat ik de brief van Haagse Postkantoor in de brievenbus trof, klonk het geluid van de klep anders. De brief maakte een einde aan mijn wachten en zorg voor aankomt van een klein wonderpakje uit Iran. Alsof het droge geluid van de klep aangenamer was geworden. Alsof het stemmen, een vreugdvolle nieuwe geluid schonk aan een oude verroeste instrument.&nbsp; Ik liep dansend naar het postkantoor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Het pakje was groter dan ik verwachtte. Misschien groter dan het continent, waar ik zes jaar lang gedwongen leefde en misschien wat kleiner dat de gevangeniscel van Evin gevangenis.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Het pakje paste niet op mijn schoot. Ik moest op de schoot van het pakje kruipen en als een \u2018Boa\u2019 naar een huis kronkelen dat niet van mij was en is.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Ik kan me niet herinneren hoe ik het trappenhuis van vier verdiepingen opliep, maar ik kan me wel herinneren hoe moeilijk het was om mezelf uit de schoot van het pakje te halen. Ik heb het onmiddellijk geopend en haalde \u00e9\u00e9n bij \u00e9\u00e9n de handnijverheid van de vrouwen van deze jaren \u2026 de gevangen vrijheidlievende vrouwen in \u201calgemene vrouwenafdeling van politieke gevangenis van Evin\u201d, uit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Vogel, vliegen\u2026! Poppen, klein, groot\u2026! Tas vol confetti, tas zonder confetti\u2026! Patchwork vloerkleed, Geborduurd tafelkleed\u2026!<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Nee, nee! Het was niet slechts deze. Het was een hemel voor het vliegen van kleine vredesvogel. Als een mooi vrijheidslied. Als open armen voor kleine en grote moederschap. Als ontelbare vrouwelijke schoten, versierd en sober. Als de wens voor het bezitten van een veilig huis voor leven op die patchwork.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Gezonken in het beschouwen van deze wereld vol ziel, besloot ik om die kleurrijke nijverheid van de lieve gevangenen, als een historische pagina van de beweging van Iraanse vrouwen, met anderen te delen.
